East Thurrock United 2, Wroxham 0

EAST Thurrock United made a winning start to their Isthmian North campaign with a victory at Rookery Hill on Saturday, (12 August) against Wroxham.

It was a match started at a high tempo and Rocks were setting it - asking tough questions of the visiting defence, whose keeper Ollie Sutton was tested a couple of times.

He reacted well to keep out a header from Ayo Odukoya after good work by Jesse Olukolu.

However, Wroxham stuck to their task and came into the game, with Josh Harvey shooting over when he ought to have done better.

Action at the other end saw Sutton again doing well to save Gael Kileba's well-struck shot with his feet and not long after he tipped a drive from Olukolu over the bar.

The deadlock was finally broken on 42 minutes when Odukoya headed in from close range after getting on the end of a cross from Camilo Restrepo.

Rocks keeper Kelechi Chibueze was called into action early in the second half to keep out a low curling effort but Rocks were largely in the ascedency and a second goal duly arrived on 70 minutes when Kileba smashed a shot across goal which flew into the top right corner.

Rocks defended well through the closing stages of the game and denied Wroxham any opportunity to get back into the match.
