AVELEY'S quest to secure promotion from the Isthmian Premier - and even a tilt at the title - continues with a trip to Haringey Borough today (Saturday, 1 April).

Millers are fourth, three points behind leaders Hornchurch in a very congested group at the head of the table.

Borough sit safe in mid table and Aveley will hope for a win to put the disappointment of losing in the Essex Thameside Trophy semi-final behind them with three points.

They were beaten by Grays Athletic, who are on their own promotion-seeking mission in the Isthmian North today when they entertain Basildon United.

The Blues have slipped a little off the pace in the race for the play-offs and sit seventh on 59 points alongside Felixstowe and New Salamis but a win at Parkside will keep them in the mix.

And Grays' borough neighbours East Tilbury might have done them a favour at Felixstowe.m but the game was called off after a morning pitch inspection.

Also in need of a positive result in a big relegation battle are Tilbury.

The Dockers have five matches left and their hopes of catching 16th-placed Witham and escaping a relegation play-off at best were dampened in midweek when Witham won 1-0 at Coggeshall. Witham, who are at New Salamis today, now have an eight point lead over Dockers with a match in hand.

The upbeat side of Tuesday's win for Witham was it kept Dockers four points ahead of coggeshall who occupy one of the two automatic relegation slots.

And the club between them are 18th-placed Great Wakering Rovers - today's visitors to Chadfields.

Nothing is going to be decided today but with the clock ticking fast towards the end of the season there are bound to be some tense borough fans as kick-off time arrives.
