Season starters for Thurrock sides

THURROCK Rugby Club's competitive season gets underway this weekend with both the Men's 1st XV and the T-Birds starting their League campaigns.

Today Saturday (17 September), the 1st XV welcome local rivals, Eton Manor to Oakfield for 3pm kick-off. The match has three players in line for their debuts with Aaron Antrobus in the front row having joined the club in the summer while Luis Tricio and Euan Thomas make their debuts after graduating from the Colts.

Eton Manor already have one match under their belt in the London & South East Regional 2 Anglia division, having won 55-10 at Ip[swich, who have started the season badly and sit at the bottom of the table with two defeats, no points and a -84 points difference.

Thurrock Mongrels are also in action on Saturday as they travel to face Westcliff in their first Merit league game of the season. The seconds' game against East London has been postponed due to put opposition not able to field a side.

Sunday then sees the Ladies team, the T-Birds, travel to face London Irish in their Championship South One opener.

Also on Sunday four of the Thurrock youth teams will be in action with the Colts & Under 16s away to Romford & Eton Manor respectively. The Under 15s make the short journey over the Bridge to play Westcombe Park while the only home game on Sunday will see the Under 13s host Epping & Upper Clapton.

In the Counties 2 Essex League there will be action today at the Recreation Ground where Stanford-le-Hope play host to Barking. In the same division Pegasus Palmerians travel to Millwall.

Thames are at home at Garron Lane, South Ockendon to Eton Manor Thirds in the Essex Merit Table Two.
