The STA Level 2 Award in Teaching Swimming aims to produce teachers that can teach the essential swimming skills, water safety and all four key strokes to participants.

They are able to plan, deliver, assess and evaluate lessons for adult and child participants.

This qualification is for learners who wish to work with children and adults, helping them to develop, both as swimmers and individuals in the aquatic environment. No experience of working with children or teaching swimming lessons is required prior to undertaking this qualification. The total guided learning hours are 40.

The units of this qualification will enable learners to:

• Safeguard children, young people and vulnerable adults
• Plan, deliver, assess and evaluate swimming lessons
• Understand a swimming teacher's role
• Understand the Health and Safety requirements for an aquatic environment
• Understand the scientific and learning theories relevant to swimming teaching
