REACTION to yesterday's news that Thurrock-based Cruise and Maritime Voyages has gone into administration shows the shock and disappointment it has brought.

Members of the team based at the company's head office in Purfleet have taken to social media to comment and the Port of Tilbury, home port of several of the company's ships and where a number are currently berthed, has expressed its sympathy.

A spokesperson for the port said: "We fully recognise the difficulties faced by the global cruise industry as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We have worked very closely with CMV as they have developed their business over the past few years and they have been an integral part of our cruise operations across the Forth Ports Group throughout that time.

"Our thoughts are with all those affected by this news.

"Each of our cruise facilities is an integral part of a busy port and will be ready and waiting for the cruise industry when it is able to be fully operational once more."

Locally-based marketing manager for CMV, Rebecca Jones, reflects the human cost of going into administration.

She says: "I am beyond heartbroken that Cruise and Maritime Voyages has entered into administration.

"I cannot thank CMV enough for a wonderful three years.

"I have been so very lucky and blessed to have been able to call this wonderful company my own.

"To my team thank you, words will never be enough, thank you."
