THURROCK'S police commander has moved on to a new job - the latest is a succession of senior officer to come and go in the borough.

Chief Inspector Claire Talbot has been promoted to Superintendent for Contact management and on Monday will begin her new job.

Paying tribute to the officers in Thurrock she says: "As I move to my new role I am proud of everything that the teams achieve every day and the great support and work we do with our fantastic partners.

"I have loved every minute of my time in Thurrock and am proud of everything we have achieved together.

"Thank you all for your support and please carry on supporting our amazing teams who work hard to keep everyone safe."

Supt Talbot took over in Thurrock in September 2018 and outlined her plans for the borough.

She said: "She added: "Tackling violent crime is a key focus for me and my team, especially domestic abuse and crime connected to gangs.

"I am also acutely aware that repeated anti-social behaviour can really affect people's quality of life, and so this continues to be a priority for us and other partners.

"I also encourage people to please keep reporting the crime and problems you're experiencing so we can build up information to identify those responsible.

"Thurrock is a great place to live and work and we and our partners are committed to keeping it that way.

"We can only do this as a community so please do come and talk to my officers at any of our Coffee with Cops events and local meetings."

In recent weeks there has been rising concern about levels of policing in the borough and the force has been widely crtiticised for its lack of public profile while violence and crime has taken a higher profile - with Grays and Stanford-le-Hope experiencing a significant number of incidents.
