A REPEAT call has gone out to Thurrock Council in the wake of residents' concerns about faulty street lighting which they say puts people in danger.

Against a background of an increasing number of criminal incidents in the Grays town centre area over recent times, residents have called for there to be an improvement in street lighting.

And at the very least for existing lights that are faulty to be repaired.

Last month, after being alerted to the issue, Grays Riverside ward councillors Martin Kerin, Jane Pothecary and Tony Fish called on the council to carry out an audit of lights across the area.

However today (Thursday, 27 August) the trio report there has been no action taken following that request.

Cllr Kerin says: "We remain concerned about the ongoing saga around poor lighting in our ward. During July, we asked - this has not happened.

"Our residents are continuing to contact us regarding the poor state of lighting. Across the ward, a number of lights are out, and have been for some time now.

"It won't be long until the weather changes and this issue becomes even more serious than it is now.

"Again we call on the council. It is time to fix the lights while the sun is shining!"
