Call for the fish scales of justice to come down against shop plan which has already caused a big stink

THREE ward councillors claim there is something rotten about a planning application currently before Thurrock Council - and they will be joinging a campaign to stop some fishy business.

Since the summer, residents at the bottom of Parker Road and the corner of London Road, in Grays, have complained about the smell of rotten fish coming from a container operating at the back of the old pet shop.

There have also been traffic problems when deliveries arrive, compounded by the issues with school traffic which the residents of the Belmont area already suffer from.

Ward councillors Cllr Martin Kerin, Jane Pothecary and Tony Fish say that despite their protestations , and complaints from local residents, the council's enforcement department has done nothing about the issue.

Cllr Fish says: "Our residents have had to put up with this smell for far too long. When you factor in the traffic disruption to the area too, you can see that this is unacceptable.

"We want to put a stop to it once and for all.

"It turns out that the site does not have planning permission to run the business there.

"Now permission for a business has been applied for retrospectively.

"We will be fighting it."
