THE borough's four non-League sides were all involved in drawn matches on Saturday (12 February).

East Thurrock United ended a run of defeats with a hard fought home draw against Margate in the Isthmian Premier, a creditable performance from bottom-of-the-table Rocks against a side still harbouring promotion aspirations.

In a match of few chances the home side were well-marshalled at the back by Curtis Ujah who guided them to only a third clean sheet of the season.

At the other end East Thurrock had early chances from Ben Wyss, Olly Miles and Johnny Ashman but they were unable to make a breakthrough and Margate came back into the match.

There was a similar start to the second half with Rocks again in marginal ascendency but the visitors regrouped a second time and in the end the draw was a fair result.

In the Isthmian North the game of the day at Parkside ended in another 1-1 draw between hosts Aveley and visitors Canvey Island who started the day in first and second place respectively.

In front of an impressive crowd of 679, Elliott Ronto put Canvey ahead after 27 minutes and it wasn't until three minutes from the end that Millers got the point that keeps them top on goal difference, with Alex Akrofi getting the vital strike.

It was a goal that Aveley boss Danny Scopes believes was fair reward for his side who had 'turned the screw' on Canvey in the second half.

He added:"It was probably a fair result but I am pleased with the fight and the spirit and the guts we showed to keep going right to the end."

Grays Athletic dropped to fifth after a goalless draw in Suffolk at AFC Sudbury while Tilbury remain in the mid table melee after drawing 1-1 at Chadfields with Felixstowe and Walton United, who opened the scoring with Joe Whight's 58th minute goal.

Suaibo Balde got the Dockers level nine minutes from time.
