Aveley 4, Barking 0

AVELEY turned in a superb performance, backed by an enthusiastic and noisy crowd of 341 to gain revenge for their recent FA Cup defeat on penalties at the hands of Barking with Friday evening's emphatic Isthmian North win at Parkside.

The Millers were on the front foot from the start of this evening's (24 September) derby clash and Alex Akrofi went close with an early strike from a free kick after George Sykes was brought down on the edge of the box.

Sykes was proving very lively and he earned his side a 12th minute penalty when he was felled after another foray into the box and Shad Ngandu sent James Shaw the wrong way from the spot.

The tempo ebbed a little after the goal but Aveley were able to extend their lead on the half hour when Sykes broke free again and lobbed Shaw.

Something of a feisty atmosphere on the pitch threatened to spill over with a fracas just before the break that saw temperamental former Millers boss Justin Gardner confront the Millers bench but the issue was defused by the ref and a yellow car apiece for Millers' Manny Ogunrinde and Barking's Peter Ojemen.

The second half was a calmer affair with less goalmouth action until the closing stages. Ojeman was sent off on 80 minutes for picking up a second caution and Ogunrinde raced into the box on 86 minutes and was brought down. Akrofi stepped up to convert the penalty for his 50th Aveley goal.

The icing on the Aveley cake came in the last minute when the livewire Ogunrinde netted in the closing minute.
