UPDATE: MEETING CANCELLED. Mammoth task for Aveley residents: Community meeting will consider future developments in the village

By Neil Speight 15th Mar 2020

THE Aveley and Kenningtons Community Forum will be hosting a public meeting on Tuesday, 17 March. Doors open at 7pm.

Guest speakers will be from the Aveley Design Charrette.

A forum spokesperson said: "We would like to make you aware of the progress made so far with regards to future potential housing developments in the Aveley area.

"This is your chance to have your say.

"At the Aveley Design workshops which took place in November 2019 and January 2020, comments were collated from residents detailing what our area needs in the event that land is developed. There are a number of sites which have been highlighted.

"Some sites have been identified and two in particular stand out from the rest and have been incorporated into a presentation which will be on display.

"The Aveley Design Charrette public meetings also collated comments from the public with regards to what would be required in our area with a view to future development.

"Most of us are aware that without the relevant infrastructure in place, our area cannot cope with any future housing developments.

"We just don't have the infrastructure, doctors, dentists, school places, roads and shops.

"Please come along and have your say.

"If you would like to know further details please email us at:

[email protected]"

The meeting will also feature updates from PC Neil Brand and elected ward councillors.

The forum is also inviting residents to choose its new logo.

A shortlist of three contenders has been selected.

The spokesperson said: "We would like to know what you think about them to help us

design the final logo! Which one do you like best?

"ls there anything you would tweak or change to improve it? We welcome all comments!

All of the sample logos depict images of Prehistoric mammoths highlighted by

rainbow colours to show that everybody in our community is welcome at the Hub.

"Why a mammoth you may ask? Well in 1964, two fossilised skeletons were

discovered in the Aveley Clay Quarry which was used by a local cement company

"One was a Woolly Mammoth and the other a Straight Tusked Elephant. They were

assessed as being over 200,000 years old and the Woolly Mammoth is the best

preserved specimen to ever be found in the U.K. or Europe.

"lt is now held in the Natural History Museum in London. So, it's very special to the history of Aveley.

"And the rainbow? The rainbow represents our ambition to reach all communities.

"Geographically it acts as a bridge between Aveley and Kenningtons

The colours are intended to have meaning too: red means life,

orange means healing, yellow means sunshine, green means nature,

blue means harmony, and purple means spirit

"The images will be on display at the Aveley Community Hub* until Saturday 21

March, and at the Aveley and Kenningtons Community Forum public meeting 17th

March 2020 from 7pm.

Please come and share your comments. These will inform the final design.

Alternatively please email your comments to [email protected]

  • Current opening times Tuesday (10am. to 5pm), Thursday (10am to
5pm), and Saturday (10am to 1pm.)
