THURROCK Council has announced that it has scrapped plans to close a major road in the borough this weekend for resurfacing work.

Residents had expressed concern that the planned closure of Brentwood Road from Chadwell St Mary to the A13 on Sunday would cause traffic carnage because of the one-way system in place at Buckingham Hill Road in relation to the Linford Ciovic Tip.

Brentwood Road was earmarked to have been closed from from the Sleepers Farm roundabout to the Orsett Cock from 8am to 5pm to allow road surface re-patching.

However, this afternoon (Friday, 31 July), and despite having issued a public notice announcing the closure previously, Thurrock Council told Thurrock Nub News: "The works are not taking place on Sunday."
