A BOROUGH school has launched an internal investigation after it was reported that a teacher - who has now been suspended - has made derogatory comments about students in an assembly.

Almost immediately after the alleged incident at Ortu Gable Hall school, some pupils and many parents took to social media about it. It is reported words alleged to have been used towards the child by the teacher were 'chicken shits, retards and cowards'.

A statement by the school to Thurrock Nub News this afternoon confirmed it has taken action following the assembly.

It reads: "Ortu Gable Hall will be investigating an incident today in which a teacher is alleged to have made a derogatory comment at an assembly held to discuss ethos within the school. The investigation will look into the how and why the situation happened."

Headteacher, Mr Ceri Evans has added: "It has come to my attention that a member of my teaching staff has made derogatory comments to the cohort of Year 11 students. As a school we do not tolerate or accept such behaviour.

"Consequently the following actions will occur:

  • A formal investigation is now underway which has been assigned to a Senior Leader within the Trust.
  • The teacher is suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
  • The decision of the investigation will be implemented by myself with the support of the governing body."

Mr Evans continued with a message to parents, saying: "I am aware that speculation is a virulent problem on social media. Consequently I will not be making a response via this method.

"As always thank you for your continuing support.

"My door is open to any parent or student who may wishes to talk with me about the incident today."
