PUPILS at a borough primary school are being rewarded for reading efforts by the ability to get books to take home.

A statement from the Gateway Primary in Tilbury todfay (Friday, 9 Speptember) says: "It's an exciting day today here, not only are we celebrating reading with DEAR time (Drop Everything and Read) our book vending machine has also arrived!

"A massive thank you to all of our parents and carers who have supported/ attended our events - particularly our PTA who have used some of the funds raised to purchase the machine.

"Children can only receive books from the machine with a gold token - parents and careres, please don't try to put coins into it at end of day collection!

"Gold tokens can be earned, each half-term, by a child achieving one of the following:

- Receiving 100 Dojos (reset half-termly)

- Regularly attending a pupil leadership role for the half-term

- Class teacher nominations (1 per class):

- Most improved reader

- Consistent reader (we will monitor this through reading journal and activity completion).

Meanwhile the school on Marshfoot Road has announced it has placement opportunites, saying: "We currently have spaces available for both 15 and 30 hour pupils in our nursery.

"We also have spaces for reception children with applications being made via our website here: https://www.theglc-primaryfreeschool.org.uk/page/?title=Admissions&pid=38"
