A FORMER Meals on Wheels depot could become a development of nine new two bedroom apartments.

Plans have been submitted to Thurrock Council, which used to own the site, but earlier this year sold it to Breezy Wind Limited for £369,000.

Fluid Design Associates, on behalf of Breezy Wind, submitted plans for the site on the southern end of Corrran Way, South Ockendon, which used to be a base for the borough's meals service. Buildings on it have already been demolished.

The applicants want to build three linked blocks with three floors.

How the buildings will look

The development consists of three individual blocks each linked by an entrance lobby containing a staircase to the upper levels.

All three blocks will be orientated so that any habitable room windows are facing east, west and south so there are no overlooking issues in relation to the adjacent Corran Way.

The full application, and the opportunity to comment, can be found via this link.

Thurrock Council closed its meals on wheels service and two day care centres in 2021 in a bid to save more than £500,000.

A consultation at the time revealed out of the 89 people receiving meals from the delivery scheme run by the WRVS, only 24 had no alternative support in place.

Each of the 24 people were assessed and options identified to provide an alternative solution. This saved the council £200.000.
