Arrest made following suspected cable theft and deployment of helicopter

A MAN from Chadwell St Mary has been arrested following a pursuit by police, which involved the for e helicopter.

Police were alerted following reports that between 60 and 100 metres of underground telecoms cable had been stolen on Chads Road in Tilbury. 

During the early hours of Saturday, 27 September, the driver of a car failed to stop when asked to by officers after they saw cable trailing from the back of a vehicle causing significant damage to the road. 

With the support of the National Police Air Service (NPAS) officers continued to follow the car as the driver attempted to get away from officers.

A car was then reported to have been in collision with another vehicle.

NPAS guided officers to the car believed to have been involved. Following a search, underground telecoms cable was found.

A 31-year-old man from Chadwell St Mary was arrested on suspicion of theft and criminal damage.
