THURROCK has a change of command at the top of its police tree after divisional commander Chief Inspector Tony Atkin stepped down from the post he took on in February 2023.

He is moving on to take on a Superintendent's role within the Essex force and until a new permanent appointment is made in Thurrock, possibly by the end of this month, the post will be filled by Acting Chief Inspector Lisa-Ann Gore.

Acting Supt Atkin said: "It has been a genuine privilege to work alongside Thurrock Council, its elected officials, and the wider community over the past three years.

"During this time, we've seen improvements in crime resolution rates, reductions in reported crime and anti-social behaviour, and the implementation of stronger governance and oversight across our teams.

"While there is always more to do, I am confident that the foundations laid will continue to support a positive trajectory in how we prevent, respond to, and investigate crime in Thurrock."

Mr Atkin spoke about his role in Thurrock and career in a feature published in April last year.
