Arsonists strike for third time

Fires were deliberateley started near the World's End pub and on the walkway the the Thames at Tilbury.

FIRESTARTERS returned to light a third fire in little more than 24 hours by the Thames riverside in Tilbury.

The first incident took place on Sunday (20 September) near the World's End pub on Fort Road and another blaze was set this afternoon.

Both blazes were dealt with by Essex Fire and Rescue teams - and firefighters had to return for a third time this evening.

A statement from the fire service said: "We were called at around 5pm to reports of rubbish bins on fire near Tilbury Fort.

"A crew from Orsett extinguished one bin before checking reports of further bins alight along the Thames-side walkway, with the incidents concluding shortly after 6pm."
