Aveley gets the word about Neighbourhood Watch

By Neil Speight 15th Mar 2020

DESPITE a lower than expected turnout as people have cut down on the amount of time they spend out and about because of coronavirus, a Neighbourhood Watch event held in Aveley yesterday (Saturday, 14 March) was hailed a success.

Thurrock Neighbourhood Watch hosted a crime prevention event at Aveley Community Hub.

The organisation works tirelessly on crime prevention and anti-social behaviour all over the borough time to time and holding campaigns to bring more residents into the group.

Thurrock NHW Chairman Roger Passfield, senior co-ordinator Ken Collins Aveley & Uplands ward co-ordinator Srikanth Panjala explained about how the neighbourhood watch working for the Thurrock districts to bring down the crime rate to the visitors with an exhibition of crime prevention tools and material.

During the event among topics discussed were 'Crime Prevention: Help to bring communities together to prevent crime', 'Setting Policing Priorities: Our local knowledge will be Invaluable', 'Pursuing Police Services: Our views can help to shape future policing in our area' and 'Setting Policing Priorities'.

During the day, Aveley and Uplands ward Neighbourhood Watch members discussed local issues with PC Neil Brand and PCSO Laura Coombes of the community policing team. PC Brand has committed to investigating some of the matters raised.

Mr Panjala requested more patrols in the area and a "stop and search" action plan in the ward due to increased burglary attempts an a rise in the number of vehciles being stolen.

Before finishing the event, on behalf of Thurrock NHW Essex, Watch Liaison Officer Kevin Blake presented NHW Badges and Hi-Vis jackets to the Aveley & Uplands ward members for their continuous efforts and services to the community.

Thurrock Watch Chair Roger Passfield picked out Mr Panjala for a special mention because of his proactive approach, initiatives and hard work.
