Balloons go up as borough claps along in respect again

ONCE more Thursday evening across Thurrock was marked by a multitude of public outpouring of support for NHS workers.

Typical of many scenes was the joyous outpouring of emotion at Gallimore Lodge care home in Grays.

Care workers Millie, Deon, Lisa and Gill created a rainbow balloon arch to show support to all key workers working in these hard times. The carers were joined by the residents at 8pm to clap along and show their support.

It was a scene repeated many times over. Thurrock Nub New editor Neil Speight had intended to broadcast on Facebook from the Port of Tilbury, but technical problems prevented him.

Nevertheless he said: "It was great once again to be out and about on a Thursday evening – observing the distancing rules of course.

"Port of Tilbury Police officers once again stood outside the port entrance and clapped and flashed their emergency lights in tribute and the sounds of many ships in the port, including several 'laid-up cruise liners – was tremendous and I am sure their horns resonated a long way across the borough. I'll hopefully be back next week!"

But we will be out and about across the borough bringing you VE day stories tomorrow– so keep watching this site and our Facebook page.
