THURROCK appears to be bucking the national trend by remaining almost static in terms of new, confirmed cases of residents who have coronavirus and the death tally in the borough has remained unchanged for a fifth day.

There was just one new case of the virus in the borough, taking that total to 293, while 51 people have died.

The latest figures from Public health England show the total number of people who have died in hospitals, care homes and the wider community in the UK after testing positive for coronavirus is 30,615 - a daily increase of 539.

There have been 206,715 people infected by the virus across the UK.
