A PLANNING bid for a new home in Chafford Hundred was vetoed by Thurrock Council's planning committee on the casting vote of chairman Cllr Tom Kelly.

Members of the committee had made a site visit to see the site of the proposed new home at Lancaster Road in Chafford Hundred.

The application was the second submitted to the committee for the site - having been revised and downsized following an earlier refusal.

Four councillors were in favour of the new application, but with four against the final decision went to the chair and Cllr Kelly backed the officer's recommendation to refuse the plans.

There was little debate about the scheme, though non voting member Steve Taylor express his concern about trees on the site.

Recommending refusal, officers advised councillors: "The proposed dwelling would appear cramped on an uncharacteristically small plot, resulting in an over-dominant and overbearing impact upon the streetscene.

"The proposed rear garden would be very shallow, appearing cramped and overdeveloped within the surrounding area."
