A BID for a new home in the garden adjacent to a Tilbury property has been rejected by Thurrock Council planning officers has been rejected for a second time.

The application was to build a new two bedroom home at 25 Byron Gardens but despite the council having acknowledged it considers the principal of of residential development within urban areas acceptable in many cases, officers ruled this application does not meet the required standards.

A ruling sent to the applicants says the proposed dwelling would appear somewhat narrow in comparison to the surrounding dwellings in Byron Gardens and, as such, the dwelling would not replicate the pattern of development that exists throughout the surrounding area.

Officers consider the proposal has failed to respect the defined character of the area and the proposed 'built form does not respond positively to the character of the area' and would detract from the appearance of the existing dwelling and the locality in general.

Neighbours had also raised concerns that the new build would add to parking problems that already exist in the road.

The first application to build the new home was rejected in July last year for much the same reasons.
