BLUNDERING contractors allowed flooding to damage the homes and properties of a number of residents on the Garrison Estate in Purfleet.

Thurrock Council is currently carrying out a major, multi-million pound refurbishment of properties on the estate.

Last weekend a significant number of homes in the blocks at Marine Court and River Court were left at the mercy of the elements when workers failed to ensure roof areas that had been left exposed were sheeted or covered.

Two days of heavy rain and wind saw considerable damage wreaked on the properties.

A statement from the council to Thurrock Nub News has confirmed the problems. It reads: "Thurrock Council are aware of a number of properties at River and Marine Court in Purfleet-on-Thames having been impacted by rainwater entering the buildings as part of ongoing refurbishment works.

"We apologise for the inconvenience and will continue ensure residents remain supported and informed.

"Our contractor Wates has apologised to each resident effected, and they have responded to each occurrence to ensure the water that leaked into the property was addressed and amenities were available and safe to use.

"Arrangements have also been made with each resident for any damage caused to be rectified in recognition of the inconvenience."
