THURROCK Council has forewarned residents of an administrative blunder that could see borough residents missing a council tax payment and possibly picking up bank charges.

However, the council has not explained how the error happened. Its senior finance officer, Dawn Calvert, today shared a meno to senior officers and leading councillors advising them of the pending error.

It says: "We need to alert residents who normally pay their council tax to us on the 28th of the month that the money will be taken a day early this month on Monday 27th January.

"We're very sorry for any inconvenience caused. If this early payment leads directly to any bank charges please do send proof to the council by emailing[email protected] or calling 01375 652 652 to discuss how we can help."
