Cadets impress at national final in front of The Princess Royal
SEA Cadets from Thurrock emerged seventh after the finals of a national competition that had more than 400 groups taking part at the outset.
At the weekend members of Thurrock Sea Cadet (TS Dragon) represented London in the finals of the National Drill and Piping Competition, competing in the Unarmed Squad event, led by LC R. Cameron.
Cadets at the event at HMS Raleigh in Cornwall wowed the judges and guest of honour, The Admiral of the Sea Cadet Corps, HRH The Princess Royal, with their precision and ceremonial finesse.
Thurrock commanding officer Chief Petty Officer Danny Hodgson said: "Their remarkable achievement of surpassing all of Essex 11 Unit and 44 in London is a testament to their dedication and hard work.
"I am incredibly proud of the efforts they have put in since January. Despite the challenges of balancing their GCSE studies and schoolwork, they have consistently demonstrated their commitment through rigorous training, ironing, and polishing.
"Their success is a reflection of their unwavering determination and resilience."
Thurrock Sea Cadets are currently based at the TRAAC building adjacent to the landing pontoon at Fort Road, Tilbury, and are currently looking to increase their numbers.
CPO Hodgson adds: "In particular we are looking for juniors (10-11) and anyone wishing to join our 12-to 17 year old cadets – or our Royal Marine Cadets (13-17) would be welcome.
"I hope the efforts of our existing cadets showcases their accomplishments and inspires others to pursue their passions with the same level of dedication and perseverance."
Any young people wanting to learn more about the cadets or join, or their carers and parents, is asked to contact CPO Hodgson by email at [email protected]
