RESIDENTS are being asked if they would like to help a new borough community hub in the new year.

A call for volunteers has gone out for the new Aveley Community Hub, which will open next month.

A spokesperson said: "Volunteering can be a great way to meet new people, share your skills and to give back to the local community.

"There are various volunteer roles available such as 'meeting and greeting', providing IT assistance and dealing with a range of enquiries.

The hub will include a library service, computers, a coffee and snack bar, hall and meeting rooms, and will offer information and advice, activities, support groups and much more.

It will be a place where people can pop in for a cup of tea, or get help with getting online and completing online forms.

The spokesperson added: "There is so much that can happen in the new Aveley Hub and it will be a great asset for the community.

"However it's essential that the community let us know the type of activities they would like to see and use.

"These could range from support groups, training, job clubs, social groups and more."

A coffee morning for potential volunteers has been arranged for Tuesday, 7 January at Aveley Library from 10am to noon.
