CAMPAIGNERS opposing plans to develop areas of Corringham as part of Thurrock Council's projected local plan are urging residents to respond to a council survey - and attend a meeting in the town this weekend.

The 'Save Corringham Green Belt' group is a collective of residents opposed to significant further development in the area.

They have been leafleting homes in neighbourhoods possibly affected by future plans.

Intentions for the Corringham area were first revealed by the council in December - and featured in a detailed Thurrock Nub News report, available via this link.

The plan suggests Corringham has been earmarked for up to 3,200 new homes under the intial proposals developed and selected as council planners' first choice for the community.

New neighbourhoods will be created in the east of the town and will primarily be accessed from Lampits Hill and Southend Road.

Planners hope to get permission to include a new Corringham station on the c2c London to Southend line as part of the blueprint for the area.

The council has now engaged in a consultation process on its plans across the borough.

On Sunday (4 February) a team of planners will be at Corringham Library from 11.30am to 2.30pm.

And next week there will be a similar event at Stanford-le-Hope Library (Thursday, 8 February from 2.30 to 6.30pm) detailing plans for Stanford.

They were previously featured in this Thurrock Nub News story.

Details about the borough-wide consultation and how residents can have their say can be found via this link.
