A BOOK hunt held across the borough over Easter has been hailed a success by its organiser.

It was organised by Carmen Enache who is an Independent Usborne Partner, based in Chafford Hundred who publishes the Facebook page 'The Magic Shelf'.

Between Friday, 29 March and Monday, 1 April, Carmen hid books in different parts of Thurrock for the children to find. They were able to take the book home to read, keep it, pass it on, or re-hide it."

Carmen said: "I choose to become an Independent Usborne Partner because I love books and I aim to bring as many books as possible into the children's hands.

"Sharing a passion for reading and promoting literacy in our community is on my agenda and I had the opportunity to start this with the Easter Book Hunt.

"With the amazing support of our amazing community members Susan Burns, Lauren Westwood, and Wendy A Weaver, it was possible to hide over 120 book packs in Thurrock areas.

"I've witnessed the joy of the children when they've found a book pack and it made me feel that it is something that should be done more often.

"I would like to thank the families who followed my page and looked for clues and the lovely sponsors who made this happen.

"In conclusion, I am happy that this initiative was very welcomed into our community and it will follow a Summer book hunt for a longer period.

"Also, my aim does not stop here, it will go from local schools and nurseries to local hospitals and other organisations."
