Chance for borough charities to cash in

TEN community groups in Thurrock have the opportunity to win £200 IKEA vouchers this Christmas as part of the Giving For Thurrock charitable campaign.

Giving for Thurrock, managed by Thurrock CVS (Thurrock Community and Voluntary Services), has once again partnered up with home-furnishing giant IKEA at Lakeside.

For the first time, groups are asked how they would spend £200 to help their local group and the ten best entries will see their dream shopping list become a reality.

Lisa Duxbury from IKEA said: "Although some money has been donated by our store corporately, a great part of the donation was in fact raised by IKEA staff following a recent quiz night.

"Those who won the quiz, donated part of their prize money to help the Giving for Thurrock project.

Amanda Sweeney, Giving for Thurrock manager said: "This is a chance to be really creative and we're hoping to see groups who might not usually apply for funding.

"Perhaps you're a small gardening group who could do with some plants for a project, maybe you look after a group of people and want to take them out for IKEA's famous meatballs or maybe you know just the group of people who could really do with some more bedding?

"Are you a charity which would some new furniture useful?

"We're deliberately keeping things vague because we want to hear your ideas, our only rule is that your group has to be based in Thurrock and has to help Thurrock people."
