OUR weekly preview of 'What's On in Thurrock' picks out a selection of events hosted on our events guide.

A busy weekend of community-related events starts on Friday evening in Horndon on the Hill where the Friends of the village's primary school have organised a race night.

Music fans in the eat of the borough have the chance to make the short trip on Friday to two side-by-side concerts at Basildon's Towngate Theatre.

The main theatre plays host to an evening of the best Motown songs with the touring 'How Sweet It Is Show', while in the second auditorium, the helen Mirren Studio, Alanis UK will take to the stage. They are a totally live 5-piece band recreating the 90s sound and attitude of Alanis Morissette.

The Towngate also hosts a great event on Saturday when The Greatest Show - Cirque - comes to town.

Things may be a little quieter at Tilbury Band Hall, where instead of resounding brass notes, there will be a lot of purring.

Also on Saturday,m the Scout Hall on Tamarisk Road, South Ockendon, will share cultures when it hosts a Navratri Celebration at Garba Night 2025!

Also in South Ockendon on Saturday night there will be a tribute to Amy Winehouse.

Sunday brings an opportunity for communites to come together for an open house day at the Stanford-le-Hope Mosque.

There will be food stalls, free health check ups and more. Learn about the event here.
