Clean-up crew are fantastic plastic warriors

MEMBERs of the Grays Beachcombers have again been busy on the waterfront in the town.

On their most recent clean-up 15 hardy Grays Beachcombers collected 23 sacks of rubbish from along the Thames - including 246 single use plastic bottles.

Over thje past four years the group has held 247 litter picks filling 5,627 sacks including the 68,555 single use plastic bottles in the stretch of river foreshore between Rainham and Tilbury.

The next event in Grays will be on Sunday, 1 November, meeting at Thurrock Yacht Club, Grays RM17 6JF.

This is a family friendly community event suitable for accompanied children six years and older.

There are 14 spaces available. It is a requirement to pre-book. Contact Steve Catchpole ([email protected]) if you would like to attend or need more information.

Steve says: "We will be doing a litter pick on the foreshore. If you have your own equipment – sturdy shoes, litter picker, bag hoop, gloves – please bring them along. Please dress for the weather conditions and bring along your own hand sanitiser, face mask, drinking water and sun cream. There will be limited facilities available to use at the site."
