Common ground? Call goes out for a solution to biking and 4x4 issues in local park

RESIDENTS in Stanford-le-Hope have called on local administrators, landowners and motorbikers and 4x4 drivers to try and come together and finds a solution to a problem that they say may be putting lives at risk and is certainly depreciating the value of a local country park.

Earlier this week Thurrock Nub News reported on the concerns of residents who use the newly created park and open space to the rear of the Maple Park and Stanford Park housing estates.

Today Thurrock Nub News editor Neil Speight visited the site and saw some of the damage caused by riders who use the park as they attempt to get to a now sealed-off quarry which has been home to bike-riding and off roaders for a number of years.

Access was originally from Buckingham Hill Road but the owners of the Ingrebourne Valley landfill site sealed that off – prompting the riders and drivers to find other ways to get to it.

That has seen a big increase damaged to the park and the threat, say residents, of someone getting hurt.

In turn the riders and drivers who are passionate about their hobby say they just want to be left in peace and that if they can get to the quarry easily, there would be no need to cause problems for others.

And they bemoan the lack of a managed facility for such activity in the area.

The residents who accompanied and spoke to us say they would just like the park and a bit of weekend peace and quiet back.

There has to be a solution out there and they hope either local councillors or Thurrock Council will take the first step to finding it.
