RESIDENTS in Corringham will get the chance next week to learn more about the proposed new integrated medical centre in the town.

Construction is about to start on the project adjacent to Graham James primary school on the Sorrells.

Due to open its doors in the spring of 2022 the Corringham centre is one of four planned integrated medical hubs planned in the borough which, when completed will mean the closure of Orsett Hospital.

The centre at Corringham, which is on the site of the former infants school and caretaker's house, is being funded by North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT) which provides community care and mental health services for children and young people in Essex, Kent and London.

It was granted planning permission in 2015 but work has stalled in the intervening five years.

Building work is being to be undertaken by the Neilcott Construction Group.

Thurrock Clinical Commissioned Group has kept a low profile on the Corringham project but has now organised an information event next week - albeit one that has not been widely publicised.

Next week's online meeting will take place on Thursday, 28 January from 6 to 7pm and described as an opportunity for residents 'to find out what's coming, see the designs of the building and ask questions'.

Representatives from the NHS. Thurrock Council and Neilcott Construction will be involved in the meeting. If you have a question it can be submitted in advance by email to [email protected].

The meeting will take place on the Microsoft Teams platform,.
