Concern over more missed bin collections - and it's brown bin week in the west

CONCERN has been raised about the number of refuse bins that were not collected across Thurrock last week.

It is the second week running that there appear to have been problems, particularly in the west of the borough.

Last weekend the council issued a notice apologising for the problems and said that extra collections would be made over the weekend – which appeared to happen.

However, despite a number of complaints and a plethora of social media posts about missed collections over the past few days, nothing has been forthcoming from the council.

Residents have previously been advised to leave their bins out if the collection is missed and they will be caught up with.

Meanwhile tomorrow sees the start of the rotated brown bin collection in the west of the borough. During the coronavirus pandemic the council has only been collecting the kitchen and garden waste bins fortnightly.

This coming week, starting tomorrow (Monday 6 July), wards in which brown bins will be collected over the week are Aveley and Uplands, Belhus, Chafford & North Stifford, Grays Riverside, Grays Thurrock, Little Thurrock Blackshots, Ockendon, South Chafford, Stifford Clays and West Thurrock and South Stifford.

Despite recent hitches the council says blue and green (black) bin collections remain as normal.

You can check your collection day here.
