Cops seek man who defrauded 94-year-old in doorstep scam
ESSEX Police would like to identify this man following a reported courier fraud involving a 94-year-old victim.
Police are investigating a report that the man was called at around 12.05pm on Thursday 27 February by a fraudster posing as a bank worker.
He told the man that there was an issue with his bank card before a courier attended his address just 10 minutes later in a high visibility jacket.
He took the bank card and gave the victim an envelope containing an old, inactive bank card.
Suspects were able to successfully to withdraw a four-figure sum of cash.
The victim's son, who did not wish to be named, said: "My father is an intelligent person and he is frustrated that this happened to him.
"He has since been feeling poorly, he has had falls at home and he is distressed. His trust in people has now been destroyed and he is more wary in this community.
"I do not want this to happen to any other vulnerable person and I'd urge people to please call police with information."
Anyone with information is asked to call Basildon police station on 101 quoting crime reference 42/32197/20 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
