A WEEK after belatedly pulling the plug on planned surface improvement work on a busy borough road, Thurrock Council has announced work will take place next weekend - meaning its closure.

Brentwood Road from Chadwell St Mary to the Orsett Cock roundabout will be closed on Sunday (9 August) to allow for patching works to take place.

A council spokesperson said: "Undertaking these essential works on this date means there are no clashes with planned A13 roadworks, and enables the council to prepare for further roadworks scheduled for later in the year.

"A diversion will be set up from Brentwood Road to the Orsett Cock roundabout via the A1089 and access will be maintained for residents and businesses at all times.

"The signed diversion should ensure vehicles avoid the Buckingham Hill Road one way system."
