Latest crash prompts another call for action over junction which council deny is an accident blackspot
A RESIDENT has called for the launch of a uniterd campaign to change the layout of the junction of Bradleigh Avenue with Lodge Lane in Grays.
The call came after the latest collision between vehicles at the junction, which has become notorious for the number of crashes.
For a number of years, since the junction was changed with new islands and road markings, local residents have been calling to have the junction, where a series of accidents have happened, realigned, traffic lights installed or a roundabout to be created.
However, despite repeated incidents, Thurrock Council, which is the responsible highways authority, says the junction is not a danger to roadusers.
The latest coliison this week involved two vehicle.s
Local resident Tan Dhillon says: "This must be one of the worst junctions in England. Everyday there are near misses and it's confusing for many. People need to get together and compel the council to change things!
"Every day there are near misses and it's confusing for many.
"It seems obvious Thurrock Council won't do anything until either someone dies, or it just can't be bothered.
"People need to get together and contact the new MP, Jen Craft, councillors and Thurrock Council Highways Dept.
"The cheapest and safest option is stopping right turns into Connaught or Bradleigh Avenue.
"Lights or a roundabout bwould be best but may not feasible right away.
"I will be contacting the MP and councillor in January. If you pay tax: this is where your money should be going.
"The email for the local MP is https://members.parliament.uk/member/5056/contact and councillors for the area include John kent ([email protected]), Cathy Kent ([email protected]), Lynn Worrell ([email protected]), Mark Hooper ([email protected]) and Elizabeth Rigby ([email protected]). The email address for Thurrock Council Highways is [email protected]."
Earlier this month Thurrock Nub News reported on what appears to be a change of heart by Thurrock Council on another notorious junction. For years the authority has denied claims the junction between Marshfoot Road and the A1089 slip road between Tilbury and Grays was misaligned, had poor lines of vision and was dangerous - despite a significant number of accidents, some of them causing serious injuries.
However, at the end of November work started on changes to the junction, with the council saying: "These works are taking place to create a roundabout at the A1089 off-slip road.
"The works have been funded by an award from the Department for Transport's Safer Roads Funding scheme to address safety concerns on this slip-road," - though it did not elaborate on the apparent change of heart.
