THURROCK Council has flagged up two fines levied against drivers for breaching waste transport regulations – with borough council leader Cllr Rob Gledhill on hand to witness enforcement teams in action.

In an operation last week the council's environment enforcement officers and Essex Community Police Team carried out a successful operation to ensure that waste carriers were operating lawfully.

The operation resulted in two fixed penalty notices being issued to drivers that were found to be in breach of waste carrier regulations and environmental offences.

In addition to this the teams stopped local youths from using an abandoned vehicle unlawfully, on Gammons Fields, Grays and a second vehicle nearby.

The teams were joined by the Cllr Gledhill who is also portfolio holder for public protection and anti-social behaviour. Cllr Gledhill said: "This is just one way in which our partnership with Essex Community Police continues to pay off, proving to be extremely successful in helping us crack down on those who insist on evading the law and participating in anti-social behaviour.

"Anyone who refuses to comply with rules, regulations and the law will not go unpunished and will be held accountable for their actions.

"Together, we are able to provide assurance to residents that we are doing everything we can to improve safety for everyone in Thurrock.

"I'd like to commend both teams, who demonstrated preparedness and collaboration as they also assisted with a serious roadside collision during this operation."

Anti-social behaviour can be reported online via this link.
