THIS week social workers in Thurrock have been joined by councillors and senior managers to mark and celebrate World Social Work Day, which took place on Tuesday, 15 March, through a series of seminars and events.

Today (Thursday, 17 March) social workers came together to launch Thurrock Social Work Academy with members, senior managers and guest speakers including Lyn Romeo – chief social worker adults, Jenny Cole CBE - independent chair/scrutineer Local Safeguarding Children Partnership, and Fran Leddra – former chief social worker adults and former principal social worker for adults in Thurrock, to launch Thurrock Social Work Academy.

Cabinet member for adults social care, Cllr Deb Huelin, said: "The academy has been designed to promote the training and development offer to social workers at each stage of their careers in children's and adult services in Thurrock.

"We pride ourselves on the practice our social workers deliver to children and adults across the borough."

Cllr Barry Johnson, cabinet member for children's services, added: "It has been wonderful to mark the great work our social workers do across the borough this week and to tie in the launch of Thurrock Social Work Academy with World Social Work Day.

"Thank you to all of our social workers for your hard work and commitment supporting our residents every day."
