THURROCK Council is continuing to offer financial incentives to residents, either inside the borough or beyond, to become foster carers.

The authority's portfolio holder for children's services, Cllr Barry Johnson, has highlighted the financial support, incentives and support that the council is offering in a bid to place more children outside of direct care.

Cllr Johnsonsays: "Our fostering rates are very competitive and include council tax exemption for carers who live in Thurrock.

"Placing our children with our own carers means that we are able to provide a wraparound service while focusing our resources on our dedicated service. This option provides a much more successful outcome for children when compared to residential or high cost placements, that can cost in excess of £20k a week.

"We will always try to place children with carers within Thurrock but you do not need to live in the borough to become a Foster Carer with us, we welcome applications from surrounding areas."

Thurrock Council's fostering team adds: "We hava an inclusive approach and welcome applications from all backgrounds. If you have any questions or would like to know how you can start your fostering journey please contact the team for more information."

An in-person information even is taking place on Monday, 28 February, 6pm to 8pm at Orsett Hall Hotel, to register your interest or to make an enquiry and find out more about becoming a foster carer click [L]https://www.thurrock.gov.uk/fostering [L+]this link or call the team on 0800 652 1256.
