Council offers high-powered health roles as it bids to tackle health inequalities in borough

By Neil Speight 4th Aug 2021

WHILE many sectors of Thurrock Council's operations are undergoing a jobs freeze, the authority is seeking to make two appointments at director and consultant level to its public health leadership team.

A permanent post for just under 30 hours a week will pay between £66,400 and £76,800 while a similar post is being offered on a six month contract as maternity cover.

The council says the senior leadership roles for 'two talented and high energy assistant directors/consultants in public health' will help the authority tackle inequalities in health outcomes across a range of wider of criteria.

It lists those 'determinants of health' as including 'best start in life, economic growth, housing, work and health, and violence and vulnerability'.

It adds: "Given the importance of the public health agenda in Thurrock, you will need to develop your credibility with elected members quickly and you will thrive on contributing to agendas from housing and street scene to sustainability and the Thames Freeport development.

"Above all you will share our passion for a high performing borough that has a long-standing commitment to public health."
