THURROCK Council is launching a series of Repairs Action Days for council tenants across the borough offering home repairs, advice and support.

The action days kick-off on Tuesday, 19 November 2024 with a community pop-up event at Koala Park, at the base of Freemantle House, in Tilbury from 10am to 4pm, offering tenants the opportunity to drop-in and speak to teams across the council's Housing Service.

Council staff and contractors will offer financial advice and welfare support, discuss concerns about anti-social behaviour, book in inspections for more extensive improvement works, provide information about how to get involved in housing plans and link vulnerable households with community support. Essex County Fire and Rescue Service will be on hand to offer fire safety advice and book home safety visits.

Tenants who live near to Tilbury's Koala Park, including Adelaide Road, Darwin Road, Fairfax Road, Hobart Road, Leicester Road and Sexton Road can also discuss repairs on the day with contractor Mears or team members, who will visit their home to either carry out simple repairs such as plumbing and carpentry or book in a visit for another day.

Cllr Mark Hooper, Cabinet Member for Health and Well-being, said: "I'm delighted that we are launching this series of action days to meet our tenants and hear about any issues that they need to be resolved, deal with enquiries and answer questions. Our teams, council repairs contractor Mears and Essex County Fire and Rescue Service will also be able to offer a wealth of advice and support."

Further sessions will be held once a month between December and March in council housing areas in Stifford Clays, South Ockendon, Purfleet-on-Thames and Blackshots.

Cllr Hooper added: ""The local needs and priorities of our tenants in these areas, and indeed across the borough, are important to us. We want to ensure that their voices are heard and provide the service that they deserve."

The Repair Action Days are another step in Thurrock Council's improvement and recovery journey under its Corporate Plan 2024-2029 – 'A fresh start for Thurrock' – and its new Thurrock Cares campaign to help residents who are struggling to get the support they need over the winter months.
