THURROCK Council has given the green light to an application for another significant housing development in Stanford-le-Hope.

Iceni Projects, which recently - and controversially - successfully steered a development of 230 houses on land to the rear of the George and Dragon pub in Linford through the council's planning committee, is now seeking to build up to 190 homes on land east of Butts Lane and north of Mucking Wharf Road.

The projected site is adjacent to St Clere's School and Butts Lane.

The site is behind the hedges and the footpath to the south of St Clere's School.

As a first step the London-based company approached the council asking if it would require an Environmental Impact Asssesment to be submitted for the site.

That is the creation of a researched document highlighting potential impact on the area by the completed estate and also its construction.

However, the council's major applications manager, Matthew Gallagher, says the company doesn't have to bother with what can be an expensive pre-application process and they are free to submit a formal planning application without one.

Mr Gallagher says: "The local planning authority (Thurrock Council) considers that the proposal would be unlikely to result in significant effects on the environment."
