THURROCK Council is asking the advice of borough residents and businesses as it considers extending a public place protection order – which is primarily in place to stop car cruising and similar events which it believes are anti-social.

The order is currently in place for the West Thurrock area, including Lakeside, Chafford Hundred and South Stifford. It prevents people congregating in large numbers, participating in car racing, performing stunts in vehicles and otherwise acting in an anti-social manner.

The order says it is in place to deter those who 'cause nuisance, annoyance and noise to road users and pedestrians'.

The order runs out at the end of December this year and the council is proposing to extend the order for a further three years.

However, it wants to know what local people think and is inviting people who live, work, visit or have a business in the area to have a say by completing an online survey which is accessible via this link.
