A LEADING Thurrock councillor has called on the police to take firm and decisive action to catch young people who went on a graffiti spree on his patch.

Ockendon Cllr Andrew Jefferies, who is the council's cabinet member for the environment, took to social media on Wednesday (1 June) with a strong message after a number of places on the Flowers estate in his ward were targeted by the spray painters the night previously.

He has also asked Thurrock Council to get a team out to clean the images off the walls as soon as possible.

Cllr Jefferies said: "Last night a group of youths came on to the estate and graffitied walls.

"This is totally unacceptable and I shall be meeting with police to ask them to take firm and decisive action to catch those responsible for this graffiti.

"If you know who is responsible for this, please either contact myself or the local police or go on to Crimestoppers and report it.

"We have to stop this sort of behaviour."

Cllr Jefferies can be contacted by email at on [email protected] or by telephone on 07872 009908.
