GRAYS Riverside Ward councillors Martin Kerin, Jane Pothecary and Tony Fish have today (Friday, 27 August) applied for Kilverts Field in Grays to be given 'Green Space Designation' in recognition of its importance to the local community.
In a joint statement, Cllrs Kerin, Pothecary and Fish said: "Kilverts Field, situated between the river and the Seabrooke Rise estate, is a treasured piece of green space which is well used by the local community. "As well as being a beautiful open space, it is also home to the Mulberry Bench which commemorates Thurrock's contribution to the D Day Mulberry Landings during World War Two. "Let us also not forget the lesson that the Covid pandemic has taught us about the importance of urban green space. For our residents living in the nearby six tower blocks, Kilverts Field was a place of sanctuary during lockdown."Having 'Green Space Designation' will give this much-loved space a status akin to the Green Belt, with the proper recognition this affords. We look forward to Kilverts Field being given the status it deserves."
