Court told husband was locked up by wife: Man jailed for causing crash; Stanford man behind bars for carrying knife - round up from the regional courts

MAGISTRATES ordered a Grays woman who is alleged to have imprisoned her husband to face trial at Crown Court.

Basildon Magistrates' Court heard that Sally Mitchell, 53, of Vigerons Way, repeatedly and continuously engaged in behaviour that was controlling and coercive by locking her husband Sean Mitchell, in the family home, beating and beating him.

Mrs Mitchell pleaded not guilty.

A THURROCK man who showed an 'appalling standard of driving,' that led to an accident and injuries to another person was jailed for 16 weeks.

Matthew David Foley, 27, of Sleepers Farm Road, Grays, admitted six charges when he appeared before Basildon Magistrates' Court, including driving without due care and attention, failing to stop after an accident, failing to provide a specimen and not having insurance.

He has been banned from driving for four years and will have to pass a test of competence before he will be given a new licence.

A STANFORD-le-Hope man was jailed for six months after being found guilty of carrying a 7.5 inch knife.

Connor Sprackling 24, of Abbotts Drive, had pleaded not guilty to the charge, denying the offence that took place in Corringham, but he was found guilty.

Magistrates felt the offence was so serious they had to punish him by way of prison as a deterrent.

Ricky Wright, 28, of no fixed abode in the Thurrock district, was granted conditional bail to reappear at Basildon magistrates' Court on 6 June. He is charged with using threatening behaviour against David Rose. The condition of his bail is that he must not enter intu Lakeside shopping centre of its car parks.

A SLOVAKIAN man who was under the influence of drink when arrested in Orsett Road, Grays, admitted carrying a dangerous weapon, namely a knife.

Magistrates in Basildon were initially inclined to send Miroslav Skoda, 30 who resides at Treetops Close, Grays, to jail for eight weeks as a deterrent sentence but a spell behind bars was suspended for 12 months after the court heard he had showed remorse, was being supported by a local community member and had a mental health issue that can be treated.

He has also stopped drinking. Skoda was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £122.

STEPHEN Andrew Woods, 43, of Kent Road, Grays, has been committed for trial at Basildon Crown Court accused of three charges of making indecent images of children. No plea was submitted.

DEBORAH Sills, 55, of Sleepers Farm Road, Grays, pleaded not guilty to assaulting a neighbour. She was released on conditional bail and will appear for trial on 18 May. She cannot contact her alleged victim or witnesses in the interim.

A THURROCK man has denied being the owner of a dog that was dangerously out of control and injured another person.

Greg Mason Ford, 28, of Thames View, Chadwell St Mary, will appear for trial at Basildon Magistrates' Court on 19 June.

THE trial of a Grays man, Mass Fye, 19, of Schoolfield Way, on a charge of assaulting a police officer in Grays was put back to June at the request of his defence.

NICOLE Louise Smith, 24, of Solway, East Tilbury, admitted two charges of stealing items from the Co-op to a total value of £65. She was ordered to pay compensation £65 and costs of £50.

SOPHIE Manning, 21, of Kings Parade, Stanford-le-Hope failed to attend unpaid community work after being sentenced and convicted for an assault on Kelsey Velton. She has now been placed under curfew, monitored by electronic tag, and must be at her home between the hours of 8pm and 7am until 17 June.

SHANNON Stretch, 18, of Lime Close, South Ockendon, admitted assaulting Alys Denholm in September last year and was ordered to pay £200 compensation.

She must also attend a rehabilitation programme and must not contact the victim or enter a specified address at New Road, Grays.

A GRAYS man attempted to defraud a shopkeeper by taking possession of a number of Camelot Lottery scratch cards.

Magistrates at Basildon heard that the offence was committed by Kassim Hamdan, 40 of Jesmond Road, Grays, at a shop at Pitsea Rail Station. Hamdan pleaded guilty and the case was adjourned pending a pre-sentence report.

GRAYS woman Kelly Martin, 46, of Oak Road, is due to appear before magistrates in Basildon this coming week. She has admitted being drunk and disorderly at Southend Station Approach but denies assaulting a police officer.

TYREE Coote, 19, of Leicester Road, Tilbury, admitted possession of cannabis and breaching a conditional discharge order. He was ordered to pay costs and a surcharge totalling £117 to be deducted from his benefits.

DANNY Bhullar, 41, of Kent Road, Grays, denies a charge of stealing £150 in cash from Mad Lashes Beauty Salon in Grays.

He has admitted breaching a previous court order which prohibited him from contacting Kulwinder Kaur.

It is also alleged he is in breach of a previous conditional discharge order.

Bhullar will appear for trial and sentencing at Basildon Magistrates' Court on 2 June.

TOM Clark, 19, of Nursery Road, Grays, admitted being in breach of a community order and was fined £40, with costs of £60.

GEORGE Ideah, 22, a Nigerian living at Hathaway Road, Grays, admitted assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, damaging doors at Grays Police Station to the value of £250 and carrying an offensive weapon, a carving knife.

He was released on unconditional bail pending a pre-sentence report.

DAVID Linnen, 68, of Prospect Avenue, Stanford-le-Hope, admitted deleting internet history from his computer, which he is prohibited from doing under a sexual harm prevention order.

He was released on unconditional bail pending a pre-sentence report.

STEVEN Scutt, 44, of Hathaway Road, Grays, pleaded not guilty to stealing prison identification and money, between £40 and £50. He was released on unconditional bail and will face trial at Basildon Magistrates' Court later this month.
