Courts round-up - Persistent crook is jailed but it's community work for long term notorious offender

A PERSISTENT shop thief has been jailed for eight weeks after admitting his latest crime.
Sigitas Alisauskas, 55, a Lithuanian of no fixed abode in the Thurrock district, admitted stealing powdered baby milk valued at £144 from Boots at Lakeside.
He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £122.
NOTORIOUS Thurrock offender Kelly Martin, 46, of Oak Road, Grays, was ordered to carry out 120 hours unpaid community work after a recent appearance before Chelmsford magistrates.
Martin pleaded guilty to assaulting David Watts. She was ordered to pay £100 compensation and there was no order for costs as she has more than £1,700 outstanding in fines which are being deducted from her benefits. A STANFORD-le-Hope woman who had initially denied a charge of harassment, including a number of incidents involving Toyah Oughton, changed her plea when she appeared before Basildon Magistrates' Court.
Aimee Antonia Moss, 49, was ordered to carry out 40 hours of unpaid community work and ordered to pay costs and a victim surcharge of £385. Bail conditions restricting her movements were cancelled.
Moss had pleaded not guilty to a second charge of dishonestly making a false representation by sending an invoice to a veterinary service for £782. The case was dismissed as the prosecution offered no evidence. A SOUTH Ockendon man who appeared before Basildon Magistrates' Court on successive days ended up in prison.
On his first appearance Jamie Robert Bowles, 31, of Danbury Crescent, pleaded not guilty to a number of charges of assault and of threatening violence was sent for trial at Crown Court.
He did admit damaging a police prison cell door and urinating on it. He was fined £100 and ordered to pay compensation of £63.60 and costs and a surcharge totaling £137.
Twenty-four hours later he was back in court and admitted stealing a jacket from Superdry in Grays and a beard trimmer and aftershave from Boots. Magistrates jailed him for three weeks and he was ordered to pay a surcharge of £122.
GRAHAM Edward Williams of Swale Close, Aveley, admitted breaching a community order as part of a suspended sentence and was fined £120.
Magistrates did not feel inclined to impose the suspended sentence because they felt Williams was likely to comply with its requirements during the remainder of its term.
ROBERT John Didham, 28, of Raphael Avenue, Tilbury, admitted harassing Toni Harrington. He was remanded on bail to return to court for sentencing after a report has been compiled on condition he does not contact her or enter Northview Avenue, Tilbury.
KULVINDER Singh, 34 of Handel Crescent, Tilbury, was not present in court to face charges of criminal damage and assault. He was ordered to appear for trial and granted bail on condition he does not contact his alleged victim, Brenda Bharj-Ghatora.
John 'JJ' Margetts, 32, of Whitmore avenue, Grays, pleaded not guilty to a charge of failing to provide a specimen of blood after being suspected of a driving offence. He was granted unconditional bail pending his trial.
TERRY Clarke, 50 of Anton Road, South Ockendon, admitted two charges of assault, one of harassment and criminal damage. Magistrates adjudged his offences to have been racially motivated and he was ordered to undertake 180 hours of unpaid community work and pay compensation of £100.
In addition Clarke had to pay costs and a surcharge totalling £195.
STEVEN Alfred Barclay, 36, of South Road, South Ockendon, admitted stealing number plates from a car in Brentwood.
He was ordered to carry out 80 hours of unpaid community work and pay compensation of £20 in addition to costs and a victim surcharge totalling £235.
KAYLEIGH Amy Rosina Brown, 21, of Brooms Court, South Ockendon, admitted a breach of her community order by failing to attend an unpaid community work commitment. She was fined £30.
DEAN Martin, 52, of Broxburn Drive, South Ockendon, admitted breaching a community order and was fined £40, with costs of £60.
BEN Robin Plumb, 22, of Gumley Close, Grays, admitted breaching a community order and was fined £80, with costs of £60.
MARK William Lawrence Jackson, 23, of Kelvin Road, Tilbury. admitted two charges of assaulting a police officer, possession of cannabis, failing to meet bail conditions and two charges of criminal damage. He was released on conditional bail to await a pre-sentencing report.
DAVID William Kerr, 54, of Centurian way, Purfleet, admitted criminal damage to a wall but not guilty to using threatening behaviour. He was released on conditional bail and will be tried at Basildon in June.
A couple of days later Kerr was back before magistrates facing further charges of using threatening behaviour and failing to provide a specimen after being suspected of drink driving. He pleaded not guilty and was remanded on bail to reappear on 24 April.
He admitted a charge of failing driving without insurance and possession of cannabis.
TONY Thompson, 29, of Elgar Gardens, Tilbury, returned to Basildon Magistrates' Court to amend the terms of a previous sentence because of medical grounds. He was fined £60 after admitting an assault on a police officer in the course of his duties.
Motoring offences – Men cleared
A GRAYS man who appeared before Basildon magistrates was awarded his legal costs after being cleared of a drink-driving charge.
Connor George, 21, of Seabrooke Rise attended court to hear the case was discontinued and he would be refunded through central funds. OLUWAPELUMI Okikiola Olanrewaju, 35, a Nigerian living at Crescent avenue, Grays, pleaded not guilty and was cleared of three charges of refusing to give information to police about the driver of a vehicle in which an offence was committed. ANTHONY Richard Gode 27, of Badgers Dene, Grays, admitted driving his Harley Davidson motorbike while under the influence of drugs. He received a 12 month conditional discharge and was banned from driving for 12 months. He had to pay costs and a surcharge totalling £106.
JIMI Green, 25, of Fairlane Drive, South Ockendon, admitted drug driving.
He was banned from driving for 12 months, fined £320 and ordered to pay costs and a surcharge totalling £137.
SIMON Adam Willats, 26, of Laburnum Drive, Corringham, returned to Basildon Magistrates Court for a review of his sentence after being convicted of driving while disqualified. He was fined £100.
HARRY Wiseman, 25, of Bovey Way, South Ockendon, admitted drink driving and was fined £120 and banned for 18 months. He also had to pay costs and a surcharge totalling £137.
CATHERINE Chiwaraidzo Akino, 42, of Queen Elizabeth Drive, East Tilbury, admitted driving on a provisional licence with no L Plates, insurance or a valid MOT certificate for her vehicle.
She was fined £760 with costs and a surcharge totalling £156 and was awarded eight penalty points. LEGAL representatives of Roy David Allery 70, of Markhams, Stanford-le-Hope, successfully argued that his trial be delayed until June after four charges of driving in excess of the speed limit on the A13 near North Stifford were put before Basildon magistrates Court. He is to attend a full hearing at Chelmsford Magistrates and his licence has been returned to him in the interim.
NATALIE Earey, 25, of Stephenson Avenue, Tilbury, admitted breaching a temporary speed limit of 40mph on the A13 near Stanford-le-Hope, by travelling at 58mph.
She received three penalty points, a £40 fine and costs and a surcharge totalling £60.
DANIEL James Gillmore, 26, of Douglas Close, Chafford Hundred, admitted breaching a 30mph speed limit in Benfleet by 10mph and was fined £116 and ordered to pay costs and a surcharge totalling £122. He received three penalty points.
NATALIE Jane Goodrum, 41, of Bellmaine Avenue, Corringham, admitted breaking a 30mph speed limit in Basildon by driving at 37 mph and was fined £237 and ordered to pay costs and a surcharge of £122. She received three penalty points.
NOT wearing a seatbelt while driving cost Abul Uddin, 33, of Chester Close, Chafford Hundred, a £220 fine and costs and a surcharge totalling £122.
TAYLOR James Victor Brooks, 22, of St Chads Road, Tilbury, admitted drink driving and was fined £420 with costs and a surcharge totalling £147.
He was banned from holding a licence for 20 months.
FRANKLIN Stonebrook, 19, of Lampits Lane, Corringham, admitted drug driving and breaking a speed limit. He was fined £500, ordered to pay a surcharge and costs totalling £155 and disqualified from holding a licence for a year.
