LOCAL businessman and community leader David Barton has been recognised with one of Essex's most prestigious civic honours; the High Sheriff's Certificate of Recognition, for his outstanding service to charity and community initiatives.

David is the founder of Get Started Art, a project that began in Essex and has since expanded internationally. The charity provides free arts and crafts materials and support to groups working with disadvantaged children, vulnerable adults, and people of all ages with learning disabilities or special needs.

Alongside this, David has also played a leading role in his work with Essex Freemasons, where he has been at the forefront of building stronger connections between Masonic Centres, lodges and their local communities. Through his efforts, new Community Funds and projects have been established across the county, supporting schools, care homes, and grassroots charities with vital resources.

High Sheriff of Essex, Julie Fosh, praised David's achievements following their recent meeting, saying: "Your passion and drive were quite extraordinary and the concept of Get Started Art is excellent – David, you are a much deserved recipient of a High Sheriff Certificate of Recognition."

Speaking about the award, David said: "I feel humbled and proud to receive this recognition. It reflects the work not just of myself, but of all the volunteers and supporters who dedicate their time to making a difference in our communities. Together, we can achieve so much more."

David's recognition highlights the vital role of grassroots projects in building stronger, more connected communities, something he continues to champion both through Get Started Art and his leadership within Essex Freemasons.
